Pizza, first of all: Pizza Margherita is the real pizza napoletana which is thinner in the middle but with a thicker crust and seasoned with local tomatoes, mozzarella and basil. You can try it with buffalo mozzarella for a more intense flavor. Unmissable are also all fish dishes such as spaghetti with mussels or clam sauce, risotto alla pescatora, grilled fish, fried anchovies, fried or stuffed calamari.
Desserts are other masterpieces of this city and region: pastiera napoletana is the most popular cake made with ricotta; sfogliatelle are crunchy pastry filled with ricotta; rum-filled babà filled with cream for an extra indulgence.
